Mission Statement
by Carl on May.29, 2008, under general, phantasmagoria
In this growing business market (BM), it is imperative to maximize transparent applications while at the same time driving integrated infomediaries. There is a constant need for streamlined world-class experiences that are not being addressed by today’s syndicate turn-key e-businesses. That is what I’m here to change. As the BM grows (read: expands) there becomes a breaking point where reinventing extensible technologies becomes paramount. Targeting ubiquitous applications and leveraging integrated action-items are a thing of the past. In this day and age, the BM demands more, and not just in the sense of delivering frictionless interfaces, but more along the lines of delivering cross-media platforms. At the end of the day, making your customers and clients smile, and giving them the driving dot-com mindshare that they require and deserve is what I’m here to deliver.
Thank you.
…like Michael Jordan
by Carl on May.05, 2008, under crazy
I had an odd experience while getting my haircut the other day, and it was at a place I’ve been going to for a while now, with a stylist I’ve been to a handful of times before. While sitting in the chair, slouching because she’s so short (side note: she made a comment previously, how I was tall, like Michael Jordan), the stylist stopped cutting my hair and put her frigid, tiny fingers on the sides of my face and began to massage my temples. It was a slow business day for them, so there was no one else getting a haircut, and the other stylist went to take her break, so, it was just me and her, and her tiny, frigid dagger fingers on my face. Shocked, and confused, I didn’t know what to do. I was looking in the mirror, at myself, getting a massage, trying to make eye-contact with her in hopes that she would see the uncomfortable situation she had put me in. And yet, she never looked up, in fact, she kept her eyes closed while she continued, and it seemed to go on forever!
Now, there are some places around here, such as Jude’s Barber Shop, that actually have massages as part of their total haircut package, so it wouldn’t be out of the question to have this kind of service at that establishment…. But, I was at Supercuts, which just makes this story all kinds of crazy.
From behind the lens
by Carl on Mar.13, 2008, under confusion, music, pix
So, I love to take pictures, and if you’ve been around me in the past year or so, you know that. Since last March, when I bought this camera, I’ve taken over 3500 pictures. Granted, not all of them are worthy of a frame, but, a lot of them are just plain great.
The problem I’ve run across is that, I spend 99.9% of the time *behind* the camera, and in the 3500 pictures I’ve taken, I’m probably in less than 150 of them, and that’s probably a high number. So what’s a photog to do? I’ve got a reputation for being “the guy who takes pictures of everything,” how do I tweak that to become “the guy who takes pictures of everything, but 30% of the time, he’s in the picture too”?
It’s not that I don’t let others take pictures with my camera, I do, and that’s how I’ve gotten into those scant 150 pictures, so how can I get my own personal picture count up? I’m not one for asking others to take pictures of me, but maybe that’s what I have to do. Any suggestions? Should I just resort to Photoshopping myself into pictures? ‘Cause I’m game for that

Dream

[Warning:This is going to be an untraditional post for me, as I don't normally venture in this direction. And yet, I've come to a point where I need to vent and for some reason, let others know (even if no one responds). It's probably gonna be a sap-fest. You've been warned. Don't read any further if you're either of reading age, pregnant, going to be pregnant, a dictator of a small country, a shark or a member of a Harry Potter fan club.] (continue reading…)
"…Now for something we hope you’ll really like"
by Carl on Mar.07, 2008, under insomnia, music, phantasmagoria, site, work
Yup, yet another blog theme has made its way out of “that’d be a good idea” and in to “well, it’s about 75% complete, let’s post it, I’m tired of working on it!”
We’ll see how long this one lasts before I come up with something else :-/
Some music that I’ve recently gotten into:
Against Me! - Thrash Unreal
Fall Out Boy - Don’t You Know who I am?
Fall Out Boy - I’ve got all this Ringing in my Ears and None on my Fingers
Foo Fighters - Home
Grandaddy - A.M. 180
Guano Apes - Quietly
Muse - Time is Running Out
Something Corporate - Not What It Seems
Strata - Cocaine
Strata - Hot Cold (Darling Don’t)
And that’s about it, work is keeping me too busy to have anything else to talk about :-/
Chase Bank thinks I have a drinking problem
by Carl on Feb.06, 2008, under beaners, biggbys, chase, coffee, fraud, general, mocha
But not in the traditional sense. I got a call from the Chase Fraud Prevention Department late last week, concerning some increased activity on my debit card. I called them back to figure out what was going on, because according to my online statement, everything was normal.
“There has been increased activity in micro-transactions for a business called… ‘Beaners?’ Does that sound familiar?”
I let out a laugh that surprised her, “Yes, that is very familiar. It’s a coffee shop nearby.”
“Oh, ok. Because it shows here that you have an excess of 20 transactions over the past 3 weeks, and it sent up some red-flags.”
I think she was slyly trying to have an intervention with me, but it didn’t work. After leaving the office, I grabbed another “grande mocha skim, no whip and sugar-free chocolate” on my way home… I need help :-p
"Stalking" is such a nasty word
by Carl on Jan.17, 2008, under confusion, facebook, good n plenty
So I’ve been getting some inquiries lately as to what I *do* all day long, because to most people, it looks like I just sit at my computer with two windows open; email and Facebook.
Now, while this is *partly* true (I do sit at a computer all day, it’s my job), I *don’t* just sit there to reply to emails or post on Facebook. Surprise!
"But, how do you reply to messages so fast?" You might say to yourself, just after you say something like "Carl, you’re so awesome, and it’s quantifiable through many fields of science and mathematics." Well, first off, thanks for the compliment, I appreciate it ;), and secondly
So I thought, "Self, now is a good time to post about nothing."
by Carl on Jan.13, 2008, under car, facebook, insomnia, ipod, lists, phantasmagoria
So it’s after 3am, and the urge to post to my blog was palatable. In fact, it kind of tasted like chicken, as a lot of my urges tend to. Alright, now that I’m here, and already rambling, what do I write about? How about a mish-mash of random thoughts? "Sure, I’d love to read about random crap that doesn’t pertain to me" is what you’re supposed to say right about…. now!
Rhyme Time: RIAA
by Carl on Oct.03, 2007, under rhyme-time, riaa
What can I say about the RIAA that hasn’t already been said?
They’re rude, they’re crude, with a mean attitude, and their appetite cannot be fed.
The latest round of courtroom battles has only just begun.
They make blanket statements, with false accusations–a typical administration.
Suing a mother of two, for downloading tunes and charging her a mint is a crime.
$17,000 per song, each a few minutes long–I’m glad that bedfellow is not mine.
Ford Sync: Microsoft infecting your horseless-carriages
by Carl on Sep.26, 2007, under car, ford, from the interwebs, interesting find, microsoft
Microsoft is embedding itself in future Ford vehicles and calling this tech, "Sync". What Sync does is enable drivers to integrate their bluetooth phone, and media players (iPods, Zunes, etc) with their car through standard interface.
The interesting thing that Autoblog points out, is that there is no Microsoft branding on any of the menus or screens–a change of pace from typical Microsoft products. Not that it’s a huge deal, it’s just different, and I suppose worth noting.
Also, the system allows for speech recognition. As the video below demonstrates, you can tell Sync the artist, song, album, or playlist to play, and it will jump right to it. No need to fumble through other menus, or look down at your mp3 player, etc… Nice!
Anyway, check out the rest of the article here, and take a gander at the video below. I’d hope that this tech would be incorporated into other vehicles/manufacturers, but you can almost be sure that if it becomes popular, it will be come exclusive to Ford–’cause they need the financial bump right about now.
