From behind the lens
by Carl on Mar.13, 2008, under confusion, music, pix
So, I love to take pictures, and if you’ve been around me in the past year or so, you know that. Since last March, when I bought this camera, I’ve taken over 3500 pictures. Granted, not all of them are worthy of a frame, but, a lot of them are just plain great.
The problem I’ve run across is that, I spend 99.9% of the time *behind* the camera, and in the 3500 pictures I’ve taken, I’m probably in less than 150 of them, and that’s probably a high number. So what’s a photog to do? I’ve got a reputation for being “the guy who takes pictures of everything,” how do I tweak that to become “the guy who takes pictures of everything, but 30% of the time, he’s in the picture too”?
It’s not that I don’t let others take pictures with my camera, I do, and that’s how I’ve gotten into those scant 150 pictures, so how can I get my own personal picture count up? I’m not one for asking others to take pictures of me, but maybe that’s what I have to do. Any suggestions? Should I just resort to Photoshopping myself into pictures? ‘Cause I’m game for that

(Almost)Flawless Victory

Went and saw the last GVSU home game of this season, and it played out in the usual way; GVSU came away with another win that wasn’t even close.
Pics are up in the gallery, as usual, and there are other pics in there that I haven’t blogged about, so, check ‘em out if you haven’t seen ‘em.

Gallery Down?
by Carl on Sep.24, 2007, under pix
Looks like my gallery is down for some reason… So in the meantime I’ll be posting pics to Flickr. I’ve been meaning to do this anyway.
Here’s my latest pics from last Friday:
It’s beginning to look a lot like alcoholism…
by Carl on Sep.02, 2007, under pix
Started out my weekend by checking out Tommy B once again down at Flanagan’s… I’m practically one of his roadies now. While there, I met up with (and of course, drank with) lots of good people from work or otherwise. Pictures from Friday night can be found in my gallery here, and also on Flickr if my site is a little sluggish, here.
Saturday, I was back in the inebriation-saddle again. Started out at Flanagan’s so I could see Jamie for her birthday bash extravaganza. I met a few more of her friends, and we ended up bar hopping around–Mojo’s then McFadden’s. At McFadden’s I ended up running into three great people I knew from HS that I hadn’t seen in a long time; very cool. Pictures from that night can be found in my gallery, here and also on Flickr, here.
More Mojo’s
by Carl on Aug.27, 2007, under pix
So on Friday I went oot and aboot again with Adam, Wendy and Nikki. We started off at McFadden’s to try out the new Bacardi Peach thing, we each had bracelets to get us free samples of it until 9p. It was decent, but not at all strong. And they watered it down pretty heavily with all the ice put in the glass (trying not to give away too much free alcohol no doubt). After we finished eating, we headed over to Mojo’s.
We planted there until closing time, and it was good.
Pics are up in the gallery, here. (I’ll post descriptions later)
Rained-out zoo trip and then some bar
by Carl on Aug.19, 2007, under pix
So I went out with my bro, his wife, and some of his work-peeps on Saturday. First, I met them at the zoo for some fund-raising shindig, and we got rained out, but not before we’d gotten a 411 on the sexual habits and facts of critters in the animal kingdom… It was interesting, and weird. I didn’t take any pictures while at the zoo, ’cause I didn’t want to get my camera all wet (so that was a bust)… but there weren’t too many animals about either… Some monkeys, flamingos and lots of snakes.
After we left the zoo, we round-aboutly made our way to a bar. I couldn’t even tell you where it was located, and there’s no sign out front–looked like a church from the outside, but inside was all about alcohol.
I had more shots than I could count, not to mention the JD&Sprites that I downed… Oy, lots of liquor that night, for sure. We even found a stage upstairs, and I made a fool of myself… but I had a good time doing it
Echo After @ The 5one
by Carl on Aug.12, 2007, under music, pix
I went on down to The 5one on Friday night to see Cameron play in his band, Echo After. They were one of four opening bands for Decypher Down. Personally, I’d never heard of any of these bands, but they all had a pretty good sound to ‘em.
The main problem I had with the locale was the A/C, or lack thereof. It was cooler outside, and probably less humid, and this made the entire evening a chore to bear, but I did it.
While I was there I browsed the merch tables and ended up with some glow-sticks I turned into a necklace. I thought about buying a shirt, but I figured that if I hadn’t heard of the bands, no one else would have either. And if while wearing a shirt, someone came up and asked me who the band was, I wouldn’t be able to tell them. So I guess I just avoided that mess altogether.
Tubing Addendum
by Carl on Aug.07, 2007, under good n plenty, pix
More tubing pictures have been added to the existing gallery. These ones were actually taken *during* the trip–I was too chicken to take my own camera down the river, and it’s a good thing, I fell out a number of times for various reasons. They were taken by Pseudo-Boss Mike’s wife, Kari, using her camera.
Weekend: Tubing and Drinking
by Carl on Aug.05, 2007, under good n plenty, pix
What a weekend! Well, more like, “What a Saturday!”
Tubing
I woke up at the crack of 8 and got ready to head out for a tubing trip up on Manistee River (route map here). Pseudo-Boss Mike from work has a cabin up there and planned this whole thing out, and there was much boozing.
We had our share of troubles on the water, with the frequent downed-tree, or underwater butt-scraping rocks… Even the shear number of tubers we had became troublesome at times. But it was a blast! It took around 3 hours to complete our journey, and I was completely alcohol-logged water-logged by the end.
I was pretty upset that I chose to use SPF50 sunblock… I didn’t even get any darker after being exposed for 5hrs+… I’m doomed to stay ghostly-white for the entire summer, lame!
Pictures of that trip are posted in the gallery, of course ![]()
Mojo’s
I got home around 11:30p after the tubing trip, and turned on my phone to realize that I had a voicemail. I only needed to hear one word, “Mojo’s” and I was re-dressing for a night on the town!
I made it down there in record time and met up with Brad, Amy (Brad’s girlfriend) and Amy’s friend, Amy. There was much drinking and dancing, and it was good.
Whoops: Late post

Apologies all around to the affected members–I forgot to post these pics a few weeks ago (long story).
